EMMA THOMPSON is taking Nanny McPhee from screen to stage with a new musical due to open in London next summer.
Thompson is writing the production. She previously played the magical nanny in the 2005 film and also wrote the screenplay, as well as the follow-up movie.
The stage version is being billed as a world premiere in London, putting the beloved family story on a new path — with songs now doing the heavy lifting where the films leaned on big set-pieces and Thompson’s deadpan charm.
The Nanny McPhee character, known for arriving when she’s needed most, will be reintroduced to a fresh theatre audience through this new format, while keeping Thompson’s hand on the storytelling.
The show’s London opening is scheduled for next summer.
Are you more excited to hear Nanny McPhee’s story as a musical, or would you rather it stayed on screen?
