PHOEBE BRIDGERS is celebrating a career first from a place nobody’s putting on a tour poster: her hospital bed.

The 31-year-old singer has bagged her first UK Number One album with Lost Weekend while recovering after being rushed to hospital with appendicitis. The swelling and infection struck on her birthday and her appendix was ultimately removed — with her UK dates this week needing to be moved.

Bridgers marked the chart win by posting a photo from her medical ward, smiling as she held her trophy while lying back on white sheets. In her caption, she cracked: “Album is number one in the UK and I exploded”.

Fans flooded her with messages, riffing on the less-than-glam recovery story. One joked: “Lost an appendix but won a number 1… like absolutely!” Another added: “Congrats my queen get well!” while a third quipped: “Writing so good u had to sacrifice an organ”.

Earlier this week, Bridgers broke the news herself on social media, writing over a picture: “I got appendicitis for my birthday everything in the UK this week will have to move but I’ll make it up to you!!!!”

The Number One comes just as she’d kicked off a mini UK run on Monday, playing smaller venues than fans are used to as she introduces Lost Weekend, released last Friday. She’d also announced a no-phones policy for the intimate gigs, aiming to keep the shows from being interrupted or filmed.

Lost Weekend is Bridgers’ third album and comes with a 16-track tracklist — now officially her biggest UK chart moment yet, even if she’s collecting it from the ward.
