SAN SEBASTIÁN has locked in Michaël R. Roskam’s WWII resistance drama Le Faux Soir as its closing-night film.

The Belgian-French feature will screen in the festival’s Official Selection out of competition, giving Roskam a high-profile slot to end the event.

Roskam is best known for directing Bullhead, and Le Faux Soir continues his run of muscular, Europe-leaning storytelling — this time rooted in the Second World War and the resistance movement.

Beyond the gala placement, the selection also underlines San Sebastián’s appetite for prestige European titles in its closing position, with a film that sits in the programme without competing for the main prizes.
