Why This Matters
Why This Matters: A pro reshuffle aims to defuse backstage controversies, protect Strictly’s family-friendly image and ratings, and mark a strategic reboot for the BBC — reshaping careers, viewer loyalty and the show's cultural standing ahead of 2026.
THE BBC is reportedly giving Strictly Come Dancing a major refresh for 2026, with several professional dancers leaving the main line-up as producers aim for a clean slate.
According to reports, the overhaul follows a run of off-screen tensions and personal fallouts that insiders feared could overshadow the series. Among the names said to be departing are Nadiya Bychkova, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Neil Jones, Nancy Xu and Michelle Tsiakkas.
Nadiya Bychkova has been at the center of much of the speculation, following reports of awkwardness backstage after her split from fellow pro Kai Widdrington in 2024.
While sources said both remained professional, they were also said to keep their distance during filming.
Her close friendship with former celebrity partner Dan Walker also reportedly drew attention behind the scenes. Elsewhere, Luba Mushtuk was linked to reported rehearsal-room friction involving partner Nick Knowles’ fiancée, Katie Dadzie.
Nancy Xu has also been mentioned in connection with backstage drama after an apparent falling out with fellow pro Carlos Gu in 2024. The two, once known to be close friends, reportedly stopped speaking after changes to the partner line-up.
“The veteran dancers who have been axed have all been involved in some sort of controversy throughout their stint on the show,” a source told The Sun.
“It’s nothing personal, but it’s time for a change.”
The reported revamp comes after the departures of hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, with the show said to be entering a new era. While some long-serving pros appear to be moving on, others including Karen Hauer and Katya Jones have also faced uncertainty over their futures.
For fans, the changes mark a big transition for one of Britain’s biggest entertainment shows as Strictly prepares for its next chapter.
