Key Points

  • Former staff say Lewis asked colleagues to perform on-the-spot mental arithmetic, leaving some embarrassed.
  • The allegations followed his viral Good Morning Britain interruption with Kemi Badenoch, for which he apologised.
  • ITV denied the claims and defended Lewis, who remains an award-winning, long-standing consumer presenter.

Why This Matters

Why This Matters: Allegations about Martin Lewis’s off-camera conduct matter because they raise questions about workplace culture, the treatment of junior staff and the credibility of a high-profile ITV figure whose trust with viewers and colleagues is vital.

MARTIN Lewis is facing fresh controversy after new claims emerged about his off-camera behavior on The Martin Lewis Money Show.

According to former staffers, some team members were allegedly left uncomfortable by Lewis asking colleagues to do mental arithmetic on the spot, with one source describing the moments as embarrassing and awkward for younger staff.

The claims surfaced after Lewis drew major attention for a heated on-air moment on Good Morning Britain last month, when he interrupted an interview with politician Kemi Badenoch. The exchange quickly went viral, and Lewis later apologised for the outburst, according to The Sun.

“When I was working on Martin’s TV show, he would go around asking people to do mental arithmetic on the spot,” an insider told the paper.

“He seemed to want to show off how well he does it but it put younger, less experienced colleagues on the spot.

“Researchers claimed they had no work/life balance whilst they worked for him.

“Being asked to answer quick-fire maths questions out of the blue was downright bizarre behaviour. It made some people feel pretty embarrassed.”

The report also revisits Angellica Bell’s emotional comments on Celebrity Big Brother last year, where she spoke about the impact of her sudden exit from The Martin Lewis Money Show in 2023.

Bell said it took her a long time to recover and that support from viewers and fellow celebrities helped her move forward.

Despite the renewed controversy, Lewis remains one of ITV’s most prominent consumer voices. His long-running money series has been a staple on the network since 2012, and he has earned major industry recognition including a CBE, an NTA, and an RTS Special Award.

ITV pushed back on the allegations, saying in a statement that it did not recognise the behavior described and called Lewis a valued contributor, presenter, and respected voice for viewers.
