Why This Matters
Why This Matters: The $140,000 verdict — and attendant testimony — represents another public legal setback for Kanye West, reinforcing reputational and financial strains that could complicate his comeback plans, festival negotiations, and PR recovery.
KANYE West has been ordered to pay $140,000 to former employee Tony Saxton following a legal dispute tied to West’s Malibu mansion project.
A jury sided with Saxton, awarding him damages for medical expenses and lost wages.
Saxton had sued West for more than $1 million, alleging unpaid wages, unsafe working conditions, and wrongful termination.
He said he was hired as a project manager for West’s former $57 million Malibu estate, worked for seven weeks, and was only paid once before being fired, according to TMZ.
The final award was far less than the $1.7 million Saxton had reportedly sought, but the verdict still marks a courtroom loss for West. During the trial, reports said West testified that he had only a vague memory of Saxton and was unsure who officially hired him.
Bianca Censori also reportedly testified, saying she worked with Saxton briefly during the mansion project.
The case adds another legal headline to West’s ongoing public profile, this time centred on a high-end property project gone wrong.
And it seems like Kanye might have to get back to work in order to pay for this legal drama!
As previously reported on Pop Quest, Kim Kardashian‘s ex-husband is in talks to headline London’s Wireless Festival.
Kanye’s last last UK performance was in 2015, when he headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
“It’s been an incredibly turbulent few years for Ye, but he wants to get back on stage and prove he’s a serious musician. Wireless is a massive festival and for him to return and headline would be huge,” a source told The Sun’s Bizarre column.
“He lost support in the UK over his political views and statements, and he is hopeful this could bring his fans back into the fold.
“He has apologised profusely for his behaviour over the last few years and he wants a fresh start.
“Ye and his team have been locked in final negotiations about headlining Wireless.
“The number of nights he’ll be performing is still being ironed out. Drake did three last year and Wireless are hoping Ye will commit to the same.”
