Why They're In The News
DOJA Cat is speaking candidly about her mental health.
In a March 13 TikTok video, the rapper and singer shared that she is “now struggling with BPD,” or borderline personality disorder, describing it as an “agonising condition.”
The “Paint the Town Red” artist, whose real name is Amala Dlamini, said she learned from a young age to hide her real feelings and pretend everything was OK.
She explained that she has been in therapy for years and feels proud of the progress she has made, calling her journey one of treatment, healing and self-honesty, according to Eonline.
Doja made the comments while defending fellow artist Chappell Roan, who has previously pushed back against paparazzi behaviour.
While clarifying that she was not diagnosing Chappell, Doja said she admires the singer’s ability to be visibly uncomfortable in public while still protecting herself.
She also recently shared another personal health revelation, saying she believes she may have lipedema, a condition that causes abnormal fat buildup, especially in the lower body.
Doja said the condition runs in her family and that she only recently connected it to her own experience after undergoing liposuction in 2023.
The star’s latest posts have sparked conversation about mental health, self-awareness and the importance of seeking support.
Why This Matters
Doja Cat’s openness about battling BPD and seeking therapy normalizes mental‑health struggles, reduces stigma, and encourages fans to pursue help; her visibility also spotlights lesser-known conditions like lipedema and the role of honesty in public life.
