ZENDAYA is giving this year’s Met Gala a miss, reportedly distancing herself from the glitzy event bankrolled by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
The actress, usually a headline-grabbing fixture at the New York bash, has pulled out after dazzling in a Louis Vuitton suit last year.
The move follows news that Meryl Streep also declined a co-chair role, allegedly due to the Bezos couple’s involvement.
Sources told the Daily Mail the sponsorship has stirred controversy, casting a shadow over the gala often hailed as fashion’s Oscars.
A fashion insider described the situation as “very hurtful and very disturbing” for the Bezoses to front such a prestigious event.
They added: “It feels like a real slap in the face to a lot of people.”
Zendaya is currently taking a breather from the spotlight after supporting rumoured fiancé Tom Holland at a recent California event.
