Key Points

  • Woman’s Own claimed Vanessa Feltz gained two stone from 'drinking' custard in 2015.
  • Feltz later denied drinking neat custard, saying she eats it with crumble or pie.
  • Article treats story as nostalgic gossip, lampooning magazine culture and middle-class affectations.

REMEMBER the time Vanessa Feltz fell off the Ambrosia wagon and got ‘hooked’ on the yellow stuff?

Well, if you had forgotten or you simply weren’t aware of this iconic piece of magazine journalism from 2015… well, buckle up, diva… now’s the time for a lil’ nostalgia.

Woman’s Own – a glossy rag for semi-retired women who have part-time jobs in Marks and Spencer and think they’re posh because they drink Nescafe Azera – featured the headline “friends fear she’s drinking custard again” and claimed ‘Nessa had put on two stone in six months because she couldn’t stop sipping.

The WO issue was released May ’15 … so that would suggest that, to gain a whopping 2 stone in a six month period, Vanessa rediscovered her love for custard in Christmas 2014, and simply couldn’t stop.

Vanessa Feltz

Feltz – 53 at the time (she’s now 63, but it’s her birthday towards the end of the month) – later discussed the story on Scott Mills’ radio show back when he was on Radio 1: “I didn’t know you could drink custard. I didn’t know drinking custard was an actual thing.

“I have eaten custard, let me say that on the record often with crumble, occasionally with pie. I don’t think I have ever eaten neat custard, I’m not a sole custard eater.”

So if you’re ever in the lift with a middle-aged gay guy or a middle-class millennial white girl who proudly declares “friends fear he/she’s drinking custard again”… well, now you know why.

You’re welcome.

Why This Matters

This silly throwback highlights how tabloid sensationalism and body‑shaming reduce celebrities to punchlines, shaping public memory and laughter while revealing a persistent appetite for scandal, nostalgia and absurd headlines that define celebrity culture.
