DONALD Trump has upped the ante against Jimmy Kimmel, demanding the late-night host be fired over a controversial joke about Melania Trump.
The president slammed Kimmel on Truth Social, branding him “in no way funny” and criticising his “terrible Television Ratings.”
Trump took particular aim at a parody from Kimmel’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner monologue, where the host joked, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.”
The timing of the joke was deemed especially insensitive after an armed suspect tried to storm the actual White House Correspondents’ Dinner just two days later.
“A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives,” Trump wrote.
“He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.”
Usually dismissing Kimmel’s digs, Trump said this latest stunt was “far beyond the pale” and accused the host of making a “despicable call to violence.”
He called on Disney and ABC to take swift action, insisting, “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”
This marks the third major White House figure to publicly condemn Kimmel, following Melania Trump labelling him a “coward” and Karoline Leavitt blaming anti-Trump rhetoric for inciting violence.
Neither Kimmel nor his employers have responded yet, but the controversy has sparked a fresh family feud with the White House at its centre.
