JAY Leno has put his life on hold to care for his wife Mavis, who has been battling advanced dementia for several years.
The former late-night host, 75, was granted conservatorship over Mavis after her condition worsened to the point she sometimes failed to recognise him or recall basic personal details, Radar Online is reporting.
They met in the 1970s and married in 1980, with their 46th anniversary approaching this November.
“Jay loves Mavis deeply and always has since they first met at the Comedy Store back in the ’70s,” a source said.
Jay has spoken openly about the heartbreaking challenges, including Mavis reliving her mother’s death daily for three years.
He admitted that outings and travel, once a joy for Mavis, are now rare and difficult, leaving him feeling “bad” she can no longer enjoy those simple pleasures.
Despite the hardships, Jay finds moments of humour, recalling a recent shopping trip where Mavis picked out an extravagant pair of £650 bedazzled shoes.
“I look at my wife and said, ‘You like these?’ I go, ‘Honey, you look great,'” he shared.
Jay’s dedication highlights the deep love and commitment that has defined their decades together, as he continues to support Mavis through her health battle.
