ACTOR Nicholas Brendon, best known to fans for playing Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at 54.

According to a family statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Brendon died in his sleep of natural causes.

His family said they were “heartbroken” by the loss and remembered him not only for his acting career, but also for his creativity and passion for art.

In their statement, Brendon’s loved ones said that in recent years he had developed a deep love for painting and enjoyed sharing his work with family, friends, and fans.

They described him as passionate, sensitive, and driven to create, adding that his art reflected who he was.

The statement said: “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon.

“He passed in his sleep of natural causes. Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years.

“In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art.

“Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create.

“Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”

Brendon became a fan favourite during Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s seven-season run, starring alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and earning lasting recognition for his role in the iconic supernatural series.

His family also acknowledged that he had faced personal struggles in the past, but said he had been receiving treatment and felt optimistic about the future. They asked for privacy as they mourn and celebrate his life.

The statement continued: “While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.

“Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart. Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support.”

Brendon’s death marks a sad loss for Buffy fans and the wider TV community, who remember him for bringing humor and heart to one of the era’s most beloved shows.
