Key Points

  • Insiders claim Roberts shows an intimidating, darker side when working closely with colleagues.
  • Her on-set presence quickly establishes her as the dominant star, prompting co-stars to tread carefully.
  • Longing for another Oscar, her intense, demanding focus on projects has strained some professional relationships.

JULIA Roberts has spent decades as Hollywood’s ultimate movie star, but insiders claim the Oscar-winning actress can be far less sunny behind the scenes.

The 58-year-old Pretty Woman star is famous for her warm public persona, yet sources say colleagues who work closely with her sometimes see a very different side.

“If you’ve worked with Julia for any length of time, you’ve seen flashes of her darker side,” one insider claims. “She can be intimidating and people definitely notice it.”

According to the source, Roberts’ presence on a film set can make it clear very quickly who is in charge.

“Even famous co-stars tend to tread carefully around her,” the insider told the National Enquirer. “There’s no confusion about who the star of the production is when Julia Roberts is involved.”

The actress, who won an Academy Award in 2001 for Erin Brockovich, is said to remain intensely driven to reach another major career peak.

“That Oscar win was a long time ago now,” the source says. “Julia still wants another moment like that and she’s very focused on finding the right project.”

Roberts’ last Oscar nomination came in 2014, and while her latest film After the Hunt earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 2026, it failed to secure nods from several other major awards bodies.

Insiders say the long stretch without major awards recognition has weighed on the actress.

Her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, who married Roberts in 2002 after they met on the set of The Mexican, is said to have noticed how seriously she takes her work.

“Danny has seen how intense Julia can become during a big production,” the insider claims. “She’s extremely focused and demanding when it comes to the work.”

“Not every movie star operates that way,” the source adds. “But Julia can be very serious on set, and sometimes that intensity surprises people.”

Why This Matters

Roberts’ reportedly intense, sometimes intimidating behavior matters because it affects on-set dynamics, future collaborations and awards prospects—shaping how filmmakers cast, colleagues work and audiences reassess the image of Hollywood’s beloved leading lady.
