A new feature is looking back at producer William Orbit’s legacy via a list of 12 recordings that span huge pop names and left‑field corners.

According to a new report, Orbit was known for pulling in cutting‑edge dance elements and applying them to mainstream projects — often making the results feel sharper and more modern. The selections range from Prince and Madonna to Blur and Beth Orton.

The update also revisits Orbit’s early band Torch Song, described as straddling pop exposure and underground credibility. One of their tracks appeared on the soundtrack to the Tom Hanks comedy Bachelor Party, while the band also recorded at London’s anarchist hub Centro Iberico and even covered The Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs”.

It follows recent news that Orbit has died aged 69.
