MUNDANE might be the title, but The Guest List aren’t playing it safe. The Manchester indie five-piece have shared a new single, ‘Mundane’, described as a monotony-busting, anthemic burst of frustration.

It’s the latest preview of their forthcoming debut album ‘Something Real’, set for release on August 28. The track follows earlier singles ‘You Should Care’, ‘If Ever Your Devil Is Kind’ and the album’s title track.

Frontman Cai Alty says the song started life with a riff he wrote “a couple years ago”, which he thought was “the grungiest thing” he’d ever come up with. Lyrically, it zooms in on the tiny domestic irritations that can build into something bigger — “fitting curtains, soaking dishes, etc” — when life starts to feel too predictable.

Alty calls it “an outlet for pent-up bitterness” but insists it’s not a call to burn everything down: it’s about letting the steam out “without telling us to rip up the script entirely.”

‘Something Real’ was recorded in Norway with Matias Tellez, and was produced in part by The Coral’s James Skelly. The 12-track album is set to tackle themes including mental health, climate change and domestic violence, alongside moments of vulnerability and resilience.

The band formed in 2021, released debut EP ‘When The Lights Are Out’ last year, and have since supported Blossoms and Inhaler. They’re also booked for Reading & Leeds and Victorious later this month, before a UK and European headline tour that begins in Brussels on October 20 and includes a London Scala date on November 24.
