JOHN Thomson has opened up about a sharp change in his acting fortunes, saying he has not secured a single acting job in six months despite starring in Cold Feet and Coronation Street.

The 57-year-old actor, who played Pete Gifford in Cold Feet and Jesse Chadwick in Corrie, described the difference between last year and this one as “feast” turning to “famine”.

Speaking on the Scary Clown Deep Dive podcast, Thomson linked the lack of work to the financial pressure facing commercial broadcasters. He argued that advertisers are increasingly choosing subscription platforms instead of stations funded by advertising.

Thomson said the industry is “hard now” because broadcasters have less money available, while questioning why brands would advertise on commercial television if audiences are moving elsewhere.

His comments come after he raised the possibility of Cold Feet returning. On Gaby Roslin’s podcast, alongside co-stars Fay Ripley and James Nesbitt, Thomson suggested a Christmas special could be a way to test interest, pointing to the response to Gavin and Stacey’s reunion.

Nesbitt said he would love the comedy-drama to return, but the remarks are only a hint of possible plans rather than confirmation of a new series. Cold Feet originally began in 1997 and was revived in 2016.
