PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle are heading back to Britain for an extended stay — and they’re not doing it as a two-man nostalgia tour. Reports say Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have already been enrolled in a local British school in time for the autumn term.

The couple haven’t publicly addressed the move, and their representatives didn’t respond to requests for comment.

It’s a major pivot for Harry, who married Meghan in 2018 and stepped back from senior royal life in 2020. After a short stop in Vancouver, the Sussexes settled in Montecito, California — and Harry later pursued multiple legal appeals seeking enhanced security in the U.K., all of which were unsuccessful.

In May 2025, Harry told the BBC he couldn’t see himself bringing Meghan and the children back to the U.K. At that point, adding that he loved his country “despite what some people in that country have done.”

Meghan has also spoken about the strain of public attention in Britain. In a 2022 interview, she said she struggled with the idea of not being able to do everyday parenting tasks — like picking up her children from school — without scrutiny, and noted she handled school drop-offs and pick-ups herself in California.

For now, the Sussexes are expected to keep one foot in each world: Meghan is expected to continue running her lifestyle brand, As Ever, while Harry plans to spend more time supporting U.K.-based charities and patronages. They’ll also retain their Montecito home and a holiday home in Portugal, and they aren’t expected to resume royal duties.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham weighed in on the BBC, calling the family’s security a “private matter” and wishing them well with the move.
