EMMERDALE’S Emily Head is swapping the Dales for a new gig, signing up for the second series of ITV drama Code Of Silence.

Head, best known for playing Rebecca White, joins returning lead Rose Ayling-Ellis, who’s back reprising her role after fronting the first season.

Series two is adding more fresh faces too: Jo Joyner, Sophie McShera, John Hollingworth and Sasha Desouza-Willock have also joined the cast. Meanwhile, Andrew Buchan, John Bishop, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea and Fifi Garfield are among the actors returning.

In the show, Ayling-Ellis plays a deaf canteen worker recruited by Canterbury police to help with lip-reading on a case. She becomes increasingly pulled into the world of policing as detectives race to stop a gang of criminals and their latest heist.

Her skills are put to work in a very modern way: she’s asked to study CCTV footage to interpret what the gang are saying, giving the investigation a crucial edge.

ITV has already confirmed the drama is coming back for a six-episode second season after the first run’s success, which racked up a total of 20 million streams on ITVX across the series. A release date for the next instalment hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Ayling-Ellis previously said she was “so proud” the show had been recommissioned, adding that the response to the first series had been “incredible” and that it meant a lot to be part of a drama putting a Deaf character at the centre of the story.
