NATE AMOS is officially in his busy era — and it’s the one he didn’t plan.

The Water From Your Eyes musician has been on a months-long run supporting Hayley Williams, but he’s also kicking off the cycle for his second “official” This Is Lorelei album, ‘The Singer In My Band’. He’s blunt about how unexpected the workload has been, saying the attention around Lorelei has felt like “an unplanned child” that suddenly made life “crazy for a while.”

That attention started building after 2024’s ‘Box For Buddy, Box For Star’, released following roughly a decade of quietly sharing music on Bandcamp. The record became a slow-burning indie favourite — with an extra boost when his friend MJ Lenderman covered ‘Dancing In The Club’. Since then, Amos has been juggling new Water From Your Eyes music (‘It’s A Beautiful Place’), multiple expanded versions of ‘Box For Buddy…’, and a collection of re-recorded Lorelei deep cuts titled ‘Holo Boy’.

Musically, ‘The Singer In My Band’ is a deliberate shift. Amos says it’s closer to roots music than he’s gone before, with none of the electronic experimentation that brushed up against ‘Box For Buddy…’. Instead, it’s entirely guitar-based, with harmonies and wandering arrangements nodding to old country standards as well as indie touchstones like Alex Chilton and Stephin Merritt.

He also set himself a writing challenge: fewer words, same emotional punch. Amos calls the new lyrics “really personal,” often circling complicated friendships — either keeping a safe distance or throwing yourself in as support, then dealing with the aftermath.

Amos, 35, grew up in small-town Vermont in a musical family: his dad Bob is a bluegrass musician, and now performs as a duo with Nate’s sister Sarah. Both appear on the new album too, with Bob playing banjo and Sarah singing.
