BRITNEY Spears did not lead police on a dramatic car chase before her DUI arrest this week — despite viral rumours claiming the pop star tried to flee officers.
According to TMZ, California Highway Patrol officials have shut down the online speculation, confirming there was no pursuit whatsoever.
The rumour began circulating after dispatch audio surfaced suggesting police had been tracking Britney’s car for about an hour before she was eventually stopped. Some outlets misinterpreted the timeline and claimed the singer had led officers on a lengthy chase.
But that’s simply not what happened.
California Highway Patrol Lt. Matt Gutierrez told TMZ the situation never turned into a high-speed spectacle.
“Zero chase,” he said.
Authorities explained that several drivers had reportedly called police after spotting Britney’s car weaving on the road earlier in the evening. However, officers were not immediately behind her vehicle.
Instead, police were alerted to the reports and eventually located the singer’s car when an officer in the area spotted her on the road.
When the officer initiated the stop, Britney pulled over immediately, according to the highway patrol.
The singer was arrested late Wednesday night and later taken to a hospital where blood was drawn for toxicology testing, TMZ reports.
Sources also told the outlet that pills believed to be Adderall — allegedly purchased during trips to Mexico — were found inside the vehicle, though authorities have not publicly confirmed the details.
In the aftermath of the arrest, Britney’s manager Cade Hudson released a statement calling the incident “unfortunate and inexcusable.”
He added that the singer intends to comply with the law and hopes the situation could become a turning point.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Hudson said. “Britney will take the right steps, comply with the law, and we hope this marks the start of long-overdue change in her life.”
For now, one thing is clear: despite the dramatic headlines flying around social media, there was no wild police chase — and no Hollywood-style getaway attempt from the Princess of Pop.
