THE cancelled American star has been blowing millions of dollars on pricey real-state, both in the UK and America — and it’s causing worry amongst her pals.

The former TV titan, who’s said to be worth over $400 million, is spending like she’s still earning like she did in her glory years.

“She might be worth $400 million and is one of the richest TV presenters in the world,” an insider said. “But that doesn’t mean she has all that money sitting in the bank.

Why This Matters

Ellen's extravagant property purchases and potential losses matter because they signal a lifestyle mismatch with reduced income, raising concerns about financial sustainability, reputation, and how even wealthy public figures can face scrutiny and instability when spending outpaces earnings.

“She’s spending like a billionaire, and she doesn’t have the income she used to when she was hosting the chat show. Ellen owns 2 houses in the UK. One of which she overpaid for, and is likely to sell for a loss, and she’s just splashed out on another one in America.

“The money isn’t coming in like it used to — and it’s unlikely it ever will again.

“It’s wild. We can’t figure it out.”

The first UK house Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi splashed out on, Kitesbridge Farm, was put up for sale last year with Sotheby’s International Realty for £22.5m.

The pad is now said to be off the market with another rich American buyer set to snap it up

A source close to the sale told the Daily Mail: “It has been widely publicised and it’s no secret that the current owners [Ellen and Portia] bought the property at £15 million.

“They then spent £7.5million on re-doing it both externally and internally. They then curated with their interior designer all the furniture which is included in the price.

“So that is where the initial £22.5 million price came from. It was felt that at least there was a need to recover the owner’s financial position.

“Then more recently, the price was reduced to £18 million but that was not publicized. We were just able to mention that to people as and when they called.”
