Daniel Radcliffe: ‘Potter crew helped raise me’
THE actor confesses he had little to do with the late Maggie Smith when he was filming his titular in the smash hit movie franchise.

Key Points
- Began playing Harry Potter at age 11, starting in 2001.
- Says adult cast didn’t parent him; production crew offered guidance and care.
- Still close friends with many crew members from the films.
DANIEL Radcliffe says the crew on the Harry Potter movies help raise him.
The actor — now 36 — was 11 years old when he was cast the titular character and began filming as Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
That was all the way back in 2001!
And he admits he wasn’t particularly close to the adult cast members; it was the production staff who looked out for him.
He told Screen Rant: “Everyone has an image of how we were all raised on the set by the best British actors, but Maggie Smith wasn’t coming in and giving me advice on how to grow up. That’s not their job.
“The people that we were really close to were the crew. The crew were some of my best friends, they are still the people who I am really close to.”
