VERNON Kay has made it clear his daughters won’t be relying on their famous parents to get ahead.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter, 51, opened up about the evolving family dynamic with wife Tess Daly, 57, as their daughters Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16, grow into adulthood.

In an interview with The Times, Vern revealed that both he and Tess have always pushed their girls to work hard, telling them, “You’ve got to go out and graft.”

Vernon said this lesson is at the heart of their parenting, insisting, “Your mum and I aren’t going to give you everything.”

Phoebe, a film production student, has started carving out her own path, gaining a following as an influencer and making her red carpet debut in 2023 at the John Wick Chapter 4 premiere.

Vernon has been encouraging her to pursue her passions independently, even scouting drama schools that blend acting with business.

The family’s relationship is shifting as the girls edge towards independence, with Vernon admitting, “We talk about encouraging them to leave the nest but we don’t really want them to.”

He also shared concerns about modern dangers like drink spiking, saying, “You have to learn to enter their world and that world has pitfalls that just didn’t exist for us.”

Despite their celebrity status, Vernon and Tess are determined their daughters forge their own careers and not just live off their family name.

Vernon even marked Phoebe’s A-levels with a lavish holiday to Ibiza, showing support without handing out shortcuts.

The Kay family’s approach blends love with high expectations, aiming to raise self-reliant young women rather than pampered nepo babies.
