BBC Radio 2 has confirmed Sara Cox as the new presenter of its flagship Breakfast Show following Scott Mills’s recent dismissal.
Sara, 51, has long been tipped as the natural successor, with insiders calling her the “heir apparent” for the coveted role.
The move comes after Scott Mills was sacked over new information related to a police investigation into alleged offences from 2018.
Sara expressed her excitement, saying, “There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed.”
She added that hosting Breakfast had been a dream since joining Radio 2 and promised “excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests.”
Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, praised Sara’s warmth and humour, highlighting her recent charity work raising £11.5 million for Children in Need.
Sara began at Radio 2 in 2012 while still working at Radio 1, moving through various slots before taking over drivetime in 2019 and covering Breakfast in 2025.
She will officially take over the Breakfast Show later this year, marking a full circle in her celebrated career at the station.
The BBC hopes Sara’s popular style will keep listeners engaged as she wakes the nation each morning.
