Inside Nicole Kidman’s Huge Salary Demands — And Why Studios Are Nervous

Key Points

  • She insists each new fee must exceed her last, reportedly walking away otherwise.
  • Kidman earned about $41 million in 2024, roughly $1 million per streaming episode.
  • A rumored $15 million Practical Magic 2 paycheque alarms studios amid tight budgets and pay cuts.

NICOLE Kidman is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars — but insiders say her sky-high salary demands are starting to worry studios.

The Oscar-winning actress reportedly has one simple rule when choosing her next project: the paycheque has to beat the last one.

If it doesn’t? She’s said to walk away.

“For Nicole, it’s all about the money,” one industry source claims to the National Enquirer. “If the fee isn’t bigger than the previous job, she’s not interested.”

So far, the strategy has worked.

Kidman was named the highest-paid actress of 2024, earning around $41 million in just 12 months, according to Forbes.

A huge chunk of that money comes from streaming shows — where she reportedly earns about $1 million per episode.

That includes roles in:

  • The Perfect Couple
  • Lioness
  • Expats
  • Nine Perfect Strangers

The success of those shows has made Kidman one of the most in-demand stars in prestige TV.

The $15 million sequel

But one upcoming role reportedly raised eyebrows across Hollywood.

Kidman is rumoured to be earning around $15 million for Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the cult 1998 fantasy film.

Sources claim the project only became appealing once the salary hit blockbuster levels.

“She knew the studio wanted the sequel badly,” the insider says. “So she could ask for a huge number.”

Hollywood’s new reality

The problem is that the movie industry is going through a difficult period.

Studios are increasingly cautious about expensive films, and many A-list actors have reportedly reduced their salaries to help get projects made.

But insiders say Kidman has largely stuck to her strategy.

“The business isn’t booming right now,” the source says. “Other stars are adjusting their pay expectations.

“Nicole isn’t.”

Could it affect future roles?

Kidman — a five-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner — remains one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses.

But some industry figures believe her hardline salary stance could eventually make studios think twice.

In a time when budgets are tightening, even A-list stars may need to compromise.

And in today’s Hollywood economy, the biggest paycheck doesn’t always guarantee the biggest role.

Why This Matters

Kidman’s relentless pay hikes matter because they spotlight a clash between star power and shrinking studio budgets—forcing execs to weigh prestige against financial risk and potentially reshaping casting, project greenlights and salary norms across a cautious Hollywood.
