TOMMY Lee Jones is heading back to television with a major new role in Season 2 of FX Productions’ thriller series The Lowdown, which streams on Hulu.

The Oscar-winning actor, 79, has joined the cast alongside returning star Ethan Hawke and newcomer Betty Gilpin.

Created by Reservation Dogs standout Sterlin Harjo, The Lowdown follows citizen journalist Lee Raybon as his investigation into the influential Washberg family uncovers a deeper conspiracy.

Production on the new season is expected to begin this spring, according to Radar Online.

Jones’ casting comes just weeks after the death of his daughter, Victoria Jones, who died on January 1, 2026, at age 34.

According to reports, her death was ruled an accidental overdose by the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Sources close to the production say Jones is leaning on work during an incredibly difficult time, with some describing his return to set as a way to find structure and focus amid personal loss.

Others have expressed concern that he may be moving back into work while still processing immense grief.

The veteran star has built one of Hollywood’s most respected careers, with acclaimed performances in The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men, Men in Black, Lincoln, JFK, and The Burial.

His addition to The Lowdown brings even more star power to a series that has already featured Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Peter Dinklage, and Graham Greene.

As Pop Quest continues to follow this story, Jones’ return to the screen marks both a significant casting update for The Lowdown and a deeply personal moment in the actor’s life.
