CONAN O’Brien is opening up about the emotional aftermath of a devastating tragedy that became connected to a holiday party at his home.

In recent interviews, the comedian said he and his wife faced some difficulties after their names became tied to the deaths of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, but emphasized that his feelings are centred on grief for the family.

“Very simply, we had a party, we invited our really good friends and then, the next day, this terrible thing happened,” O’Brien told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Whatever difficulties my wife and I have experienced having our name attached to it are nothing compared to the scale of the tragedy for the family and the loss of Rob and Michele. If you’re a known person, your name is going to get dragged into things sometimes, but it is not a hardship. There is only sadness that they’re gone.”

According to reports, Rob and Michele attended O’Brien’s Christmas party in December 2025. The next day, they were found dead at their home. Their son, Nick Reiner, was later arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail.

O’Brien described the situation as a “terrible thing” and said any discomfort he experienced is insignificant compared to the loss suffered by the Reiner family. He also shared that he chose not to address the case on his podcast because it did not feel appropriate.

The late-night host reflected warmly on Rob and Michele, calling them lovely people and saying he was deeply shaken by learning of their deaths so soon after seeing them.
