JOSH Hutcherson has revealed he was branded a “monster” and threatened with destruction by Taylor Swift‘s fans after admitting he isn’t a fan of her music.
The 33-year-old actor told GQ Hype that his offhand comment during an interview with co-star Jordan Firstman sparked a fierce backlash from the Swiftie army.
“All of a sudden it garnered this, ‘F**k him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!'” he explained, referencing his 5ft 5in stature.
Josh insisted he has nothing but respect for Taylor but simply doesn’t enjoy her style of music, a stance that didn’t sit well with her devoted followers.
The controversy was sparked when Josh denied being a “Swiftie” during a playful camera roulette game for i-D magazine, despite previously accepting VIP tickets to Taylor’s Eras tour.
Fans questioned why he would take the tickets if he wasn’t genuinely a fan, which fuelled their ire.
The actor admitted the backlash is a big reason he avoids social media, saying, “It’s counterintuitive to my job, because if people know you more, you can’t disappear into characters.”
He added that being well-known online turns actors into memes rather than serious performers.
Josh also opened up about his insecurities, including his height and skin condition rosacea, which become more exposed under the public eye.
“You’re on display for people to look at and judge, and they will say those things,” he said.
He has started therapy to confront these issues honestly rather than hiding behind “fake confidence.”
The episode highlights the sometimes brutal nature of fan culture and the pressures actors face in the spotlight.
