Key Points

  • Says he now feels "really fond" about his vampire films after distance from intense early fame.
  • Twilight remains his most-asked-about project, gaining younger viewers via streaming and ongoing fan obsession.
  • Since then he's earned critical praise, starred as Batman, become a father, and faced marriage speculation.

ROBERT Pattinson is embracing his Twilight era with a much warmer perspective.

In a new interview, the actor said he now looks back on the blockbuster vampire franchise with “really fond feelings” after previously struggling with the intense fame and fan hysteria that came with playing Edward Cullen.

Pattinson rose to global stardom in the Twilight films opposite Kristen Stewart, who played Bella Swan.

The movie series, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels, became a worldwide sensation between 2008 and 2012 and helped turn Pattinson, Stewart, and Taylor Lautner into household names.

Reflecting on that period, Pattinson said that while he was eager to move on at the time, distance has changed how he feels about the franchise.

“At the time I wanted to move on, but as I have got older and the hysteria has died down, I actually look back on Twilight with really fond feelings,” he said.

“I am still asked about Twilight more than I am asked about anything else, the impact it still has on fans is huge.

“Due to streaming services there is the new wave of fans. I get asked about it by people who were barely born at the time the first film came out.”

He noted that Twilight still comes up more than any other project in his career, and said the films continue to connect with audiences, especially through streaming, where a new generation of fans has discovered them.

The actor also admitted the level of attention surrounding the series was difficult to handle at the height of its popularity.

He recalled that fan interactions could be overwhelming, including frequent requests from fans asking him to bite them like his vampire character.

Pattinson said the first Twilight film remains his favorite because it came before the full force of the global frenzy, allowing the cast to enjoy the experience more naturally.

Since Twilight, Pattinson has built a critically acclaimed career with roles in indie films like Good Time and The Lighthouse, before returning to blockbuster territory as Bruce Wayne in The Batman.

The interview also touched on his personal life. Pattinson shared that becoming a father has brought him “so much fun, so much joy, so much laughter.”

He and Suki Waterhouse welcomed their first child in March 2024, and he said parenthood has taught him patience, even if he is still figuring things out as he goes.

Pattinson also recently fuelled speculation that he and Waterhouse may have secretly married after making a cryptic comment while attending the premiere of their new film, The Drama, alongside Zendaya.

Why This Matters

Pattinson's newfound fondness for Twilight highlights how time, streaming and parenthood can soften an actor's relationship with past fame, underscoring the franchise's enduring cultural impact and its role in shaping his varied career.
