Key Points

  • Jon Bon Jovi participates and provides access to the band's music catalog.
  • Cody Brotter writes; producers include Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra from the 2024 docuseries.
  • Story traces early years: formation, the hit "Runaway", and rise through Slippery When Wet-era hits.

UNIVERSAL Pictures is moving forward with a Bon Jovi biopic focused on the rock band’s early years, from their New Jersey beginnings to their breakout success.

The project reportedly drew interest from multiple studios before Universal secured the deal.

The film will be written by Cody Brotter and will include the participation of Jon Bon Jovi, along with access to the band’s music catalog.

Producers include Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra, who previously directed the 2024 Hulu docuseries “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.” — according to Deadline.

According to the report, the movie will trace Jon Bon Jovi’s rise from aspiring musician to frontman, including the creation of early hit “Runaway” and the formation of the classic lineup with David Bryan, Tico Torres, Alec John Such, and Richie Sambora.

The story is also expected to cover the band’s climb through “Slippery When Wet,” the album that turned Bon Jovi into a global arena-rock force with songs like “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

The project adds another major music biopic to Universal’s slate and promises a big-screen look at one of rock’s most commercially successful bands.

Why This Matters

With Jon Bon Jovi’s participation and rights to the band’s catalog, Universal’s biopic promises an authentic, big-screen origin story that could reignite interest in Bon Jovi’s legacy, boost catalog revenue, and join the ongoing wave of music biopics.
