MELISSA Joan Hart has revealed she lost 18lbs while tackling the challenges of perimenopause as she celebrates her 50th birthday.
The Sabrina The Teenage Witch star said she was surprised by the weight loss, which came as she focused on feeling stronger rather than slimming down.
“I actually feel stronger and better than I have in a really long time,” Melissa told People magazine.
Why This Matters
Melissa Joan Hart’s openness about losing 18 pounds while navigating perimenopause matters because it normalizes midlife hormonal challenges, offers practical diet and lifestyle strategies, and inspires others approaching 50 to prioritize strength, health and longevity.
She admitted she doubted she could lose weight during midlife, saying, “I really didn’t think I could lose weight anymore, being in midlife and perimenopause and all those things, I was like, ‘Can I really lose weight? I don’t think I can.'”
Hormonal changes during perimenopause often cause weight gain around the abdomen, but Melissa found success by fasting and cutting out sugars and alcohol.
In fact, she hasn’t touched an alcoholic drink in over a year, explaining, “I just don’t even enjoy drinking. So why bother?”
Staying hydrated has been a struggle, so she opts for club soda with lime or her favourite teas such as green or peppermint.
Her diet focuses on nutrient-dense meals rich in protein, fibre and green juices, often starting the day with a vegetable-based protein shake blended with spinach or kale.
Melissa also prioritises skincare, recommending anti-wrinkle creams and vitamin C serums, while maintaining a regular gym routine.
The actress said her weight loss was a happy side effect of her broader ‘longevity journey’ and a new chapter of feeling great at 50.
