ANNE Hathaway is earning praise from Meryl Streep for helping shape a more thoughtful vision behind The Devil Wears Prada 2. I
In a new interview, Streep shared that while attending runway shows during Milan Fashion Week in 2025, she was surprised by how thin many of the models appeared.
According to Streep, Hathaway immediately raised concerns and went straight to the film’s producers to make sure the models cast for the sequel would not look overly thin or “skeletal.”
Streep called Hathaway a “stand-up girl” for pushing for more realistic beauty standards in the movie.
“[Hathaway] made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal! She’s a stand-up girl,” she said.
The sequel reunites Streep as Miranda Priestly and Hathaway as Andy Sachs, nearly 20 years after the original 2006 hit. Streep also reflected on the intense fan excitement surrounding production, saying crowds, paparazzi and even police barriers became part of the filming experience.
“Even though we were aware of the impact of the first film two decades ago, I think none of us were prepared for the ambush of both goodwill and avid attention that engulfed us,” Streep added.
“We needed police barriers and crowd control.”
“Buses of fans turned up, and paparazzi swarmed and in one case kept jumping in front of the camera and the shot and got in a kerfuffle with crew!” added Streep while talking about shooting the sequel. “Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.”
Director David Frankel teased that the new movie will explore how the characters have changed over two decades, with Andy now further along in her journalism career in a very different media landscape.
Outside the film, Hathaway also opened up about embracing life in her 40s, saying she feels she has found “another gear” in this chapter of her life.
