CYNTHIA Erivo is being praised for stepping in to calm a distressed fan after an incident outside London’s Noel Coward Theatre following a performance of her one-woman show Dracula.
According to reports and video circulating online, a young fan named Lewis was allegedly taken to the ground by a security guard while waiting to meet the Wicked star at the stage door earlier this month.
Erivo was then seen approaching the shaken fan and trying to de-escalate the situation.
In the footage, Erivo can be heard telling Lewis to “take a breath, baby” and apologising for what had happened.
The fan reportedly told her, “It was nothing to do with you,” while describing the encounter as upsetting.
The Metropolitan Police are understood to be investigating the incident.
Erivo, 39, is currently starring in Dracula, a one-woman adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel, at the Noel Coward Theatre.
Her performance in the production, in which she plays 23 different roles, has earned strong reviews during its run, which began on February 4 and continues through May 31.
The Noel Coward Theatre, operated by Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, reportedly said the security guard involved was not a direct employee. The company declined further comment because of the ongoing police inquiry.
While the incident has raised questions about stage door security, Erivo’s response has drawn attention for its compassion, with the star appearing focused on supporting the fan and easing tensions in the moment.
