MEGHAN Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, 81, has found a surprising new romance with his nurse Rio Canedo, who is 35 years his junior.
The retired Hollywood lighting director is living in Cebu, Philippines, where he underwent life-saving surgery last December that led to a leg amputation.
Thomas revealed he feared he would “die estranged” from the Duchess of Sussex after she failed to visit or call during his recovery.
But love has come knocking in the form of Rio, 46, who has brought joy back into his life at the rehab hospital, Radar Online reports.
“I never expected to find joy and happiness again at my age,” Thomas admitted.
“I felt neglected and sad for so many years, but now I am enjoying life again.
After so many tough times, I feel truly blessed to have found someone very special who takes such good care of me.”
Despite the renewed happiness, Thomas has never met Meghan’s husband Prince Harry or their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
He did receive a brief email from Meghan, but he says he never replied to the message.
“I was sad about Meghan for so long, but now I finally feel like I can laugh again. Life is good,” Thomas said.
The new relationship marks a fresh chapter for Thomas amid ongoing family tensions with the Duchess.
