TV star Eamonn Holmes, 66, has been rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke just weeks after sparking panic by seemingly falling asleep live on GB News.
The former This Morning presenter fell ill on Tuesday and remains in hospital, forcing him off air indefinitely, according to The Sun.
Eamonn was due to return to his GB News breakfast show on Monday but will now be sidelined, with co-host Ellie Costello’s colleague Alex Armstrong stepping in.
Why This Matters
Holmes’s stroke underscores the human vulnerability behind familiar TV personalities, affecting programming, colleagues and fans while highlighting the importance of health transparency, workplace support and stroke awareness as his recovery and career prospects remain uncertain.
The broadcaster’s last on-air moment on March 11 caused alarm when he appeared to zone out mid-interview, fiddling with his mic before closing his eyes for several seconds.
This incident came shortly after Eamonn revealed his “horrendous” ongoing health battles, including paralysis and chronic back issues from slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.
Trending with Eamonn Holmes
Since 2021, Eamonn has struggled with mobility, relying on a wheelchair and carers daily after major spinal surgery.
GB News confirmed the stroke diagnosis and said Eamonn is responding well to treatment, but he has asked for privacy to focus on recovery.
Colleagues have rallied around him, with Dawn Neesom sending live on-air love and CEO Angelos Frangopoulos pledging full support.
Eamonn’s health woes have been mounting for years, including hip replacements, shingles, and a terrifying back condition that once landed him in A&E with bladder and bowel complications.
His split from ex-wife Ruth Langsford in 2024 and new relationship with marriage counsellor Katie Alexander add personal pressure amid this crisis.
The star’s future on TV now hangs in the balance as he battles this severe setback.
And now the pressure is only building.
