Rebel Wilson Faces Defamation Suit Amid Star’s $150k Record Deal
Key Points
AUSTRALIAN actress Charlotte MacInnes, embroiled in a defamation lawsuit against Rebel Wilson, has landed a $150,000 record deal despite the ongoing court drama.
MacInnes is suing the Pitch Perfect star over social media posts that claimed she filed a sexual harassment complaint involving Wilson’s co-producer Amanda Ghost and then withdrew it in exchange for career perks.
The posts, visible to Wilson’s 11 million followers for 24 hours, allegedly damaged MacInnes’ reputation before she could fully benefit from her leading role in the musical film The Deb.
However, Wilson’s legal team insists MacInnes suffered no career harm since the posts began in September 2024.
At a federal court hearing, MacInnes’ manager, Shoshanna Stone, revealed the actress signed with Atlantic Records in late 2025, securing a deal for two EPs and an advance worth $154,000 AUD.
Stone, who manages stars like Britney Spears and Alicia Keys, said she took MacInnes on board after a recommendation from Amanda Ghost.
MacInnes’ second single is set for release this Thursday, with her manager denying any link between the timing and the court case.
Co-writer of The Deb, Hannah Reilly, described MacInnes as a bright talent who has been deeply affected by Wilson’s social media posts.
Reilly’s affidavit detailed MacInnes’ struggles with nightmares, panic attacks, and anxiety since the posts went live, stating the actress has been “hardened” and lost some of her innocence.
Wilson denies the posts are defamatory and maintains MacInnes initially made the complaint but retracted it to secure her career by appeasing Ghost.
The Deb premiered at film festivals in 2024 but faced delays in wider release due to legal issues, only hitting Australian cinemas earlier this April.
As the legal battle unfolds, MacInnes’ rising music career adds a new layer to this high-profile dispute.
