A NEW royal biography is shedding light on Prince Philip’s final years, claiming the late Duke of Edinburgh lived with pancreatic cancer for nearly eight years before his death in April 2021 at age 99.

According to author Hugo Vickers in excerpts from his book about Queen Elizabeth II, Philip was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in June 2013 after doctors reportedly discovered a shadow on his pancreas during a hospital stay, according to the Mail Online.

Despite the diagnosis, the royal is said to have lived far longer than is typical following such news.

The book also details Prince Philip’s final hours at Windsor Castle, alleging that on the night before his death he slipped away from nurses, made his way down a corridor with his Zimmer frame, poured himself a beer, and spent time in the Oak Room.

The next morning, Vickers writes, Philip had a bath, said he was not feeling well, and died quietly.

He added: “The following morning, he got up, had a bath, said he did not feel well and quietly slipped away.

“By this point, he had lived with pancreatic cancer for nearly eight years – far longer than the usual survival time from diagnosis.”

The biography further claims Queen Elizabeth II was not with her husband at the exact moment of his passing and was upset that he died without saying goodbye. Philip and Elizabeth had been married for 73 years.

Prince Philip officially stepped back from royal duties in 2017.

His death certificate listed old age as the cause of death, but the new book presents a more detailed account of the health battle he reportedly faced in private.

The claims have sparked renewed interest in the final chapter of Philip’s life and the resilience he showed during his later years.
