PAUL McCartney is making headlines after a past interview resurfaced in which he recalled Yoko Ono telling him she believed John Lennon ‘might have been gay.’
The comments came from a 2015 Vanity Fair interview that was published recently alongside the release of the documentary Man on the Run, which explores McCartney’s life after The Beatles.
According to McCartney, Ono contacted him shortly after Lennon’s death in 1980 and shared her thoughts about her late husband.
McCartney said he told her he did not believe that was the case based on his own experience of knowing Lennon during their years together in The Beatles.
He also acknowledged there had been rumors over the years, including speculation about Lennon’s relationship with Beatles manager Brian Epstein, but said he personally did not think anything had happened.
The renewed attention comes as McCartney has also been reflecting on other deeply personal parts of his past while promoting Man on the Run. In recent interviews, the music icon has spoken candidly about criticism surrounding The Beatles’ breakup and admitted he once internalised claims that he was overbearing.
He has also shared how emotional it was to revisit footage of his late wife Linda McCartney in the documentary.
Lennon and Ono were married in 1969 and remained together until Lennon’s death in 1980.
Their relationship remains one of the most talked-about partnerships in music history, and McCartney’s recollection has added another layer to the ongoing public fascination with the Beatles legend’s private life.
