MARTIN Short was photographed in Santa Monica on Friday night in his first public outing since the death of his daughter, Katherine Hartley.

The beloved actor and comedian was seen heading to dinner with filmmaker and longtime friend J.J. Abrams.

Short wore a black blazer over a button-down shirt as he got into a car driven by Abrams.

The outing comes during an especially difficult period for the star, who has been grieving the recent loss of his daughter, according to TMZ.

Katherine Hartley, 42, had previously spoken about her mental health struggles.

Following her death last month, Short and Steve Martin postponed dates on their comedy tour, though they are expected to resume performances on April 11.

Short has remained largely out of the spotlight in recent weeks, making this a notable public appearance as friends and fans continue to send support.
