Madonna Makes Stunning Radio 1 Playlist Return After 18 Years

Key Points
- Madonna's "Bring Your Love" added to Radio 1's A List, breaking previous age-based exclusion
- Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter helps Madonna compete with Gen Z-friendly pop acts
- Capital Radio also playlisted the track, signaling broader industry acceptance
MADONNA has smashed through Radio 1’s age barrier with her new single ‘Bring Your Love’ landing on the station’s A List for the first time in 18 years.
The 67-year-old pop icon was famously written off by the BBC back in 2015 when Radio 1 declared she was “too old” for their playlist and said listeners had “moved on”.
This time, Madge’s comeback has been boosted by her collaboration with Gen Z favourite Sabrina Carpenter, helping her music compete alongside younger stars like Zara Larsson and BTS.
Capital Radio has also welcomed the track onto their A List, signalling a wider acceptance of Madonna’s latest work.
A music insider told The Sun’s Bizarre column, “Madonna has done everything in her power to ensure there’s no denying her this time around.
“The music is fresh and exciting enough to compete with any young star.”
Back in 2015, Radio 1’s head of music George Ergatoudis said, “The vast majority of people who like Madonna, who like her music now, are over 30 and frankly, we’ve moved on from Madonna.”
Madonna hit back at the time, saying, “If you’re not in your twenties, it’s hard. You might get your record played in your thirties.
“But if you’re in your fifties, you can forget it.”
She also criticised the ageism in the music industry, pointing out the advances made in other areas like civil and gay rights.
Even Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw admitted he struggled with her recent work, saying, “I think Madonna’s one of those pop stars that I wish well and I want her to do really great things.
“But I personally am not a fan of this new era.”
Madonna’s rocky relationship with the station seems to be thawing, and she’s also patched things up with former critic Boy George, who recently called his past insults “embarrassing” and has since followed her on Instagram.
This latest playlist inclusion marks a significant milestone for Madonna, proving she can still captivate the youth-driven airwaves nearly two decades after being sidelined.
