Lisa Kudrow Reveals Friends Writers’ Late-Night Fantasies About Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox
Key Points
LISA Kudrow has lifted the lid on the behind-the-scenes world of Friends, revealing the show’s mostly male writing team spent late nights obsessing over her female co-stars.
The actress, best known as Phoebe Buffay, told The Times the writers would stay up until 3am discussing sexual fantasies about Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.
“The guys would be up late discussing their sexual fantasies about Jennifer and Courteney. It was intense,” Kudrow said.
She described the atmosphere on set as far from the sitcom’s light-hearted vibe, with writers quick to criticise if lines didn’t land perfectly in front of the live audience of 400.
“If you messed up one of these writers’ lines or it didn’t get the perfect response they could be like, ‘Can’t the b f read She’s not even trying. She f up my line.'”
Despite the pressure, Kudrow said she adopted a tough attitude: “Say what you like about me behind my back because then it doesn’t matter.”
The 62-year-old also reflected on her work ethic, recalling how she returned to work mere days after giving birth to her son Julian in 1998.
She told CBS Sunday Morning she was back in meetings and on TV just ten days after becoming a mother, even starting to film the movie Analyze This sooner than expected.
Her family supported her quick return, with Kudrow recalling, “Everyone around went, ‘Of course, you can do it.'”
The revelations offer a rare glimpse into the realities behind one of TV’s most beloved sitcoms, showing the hard grind and complex dynamics that shaped its creation.
