JENNIFER Lopez’s new musical, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, has stumbled out of the gate in the UK, pulling in a mere £6,856 across 145 cinemas on its opening weekend.
The £22million film, released here last Friday, averaged just £47 per venue, a disappointing return for the star’s latest big-screen effort, The Sun reports.
This marks a slight improvement on her previous movie, Unstoppable, which earned just £3,112 during its first UK weekend back in December 2024.
The film, directed by Bill Condon, tells the story of two prisoners bonding in 1980s Argentina, with Lopez playing a glamorous movie star within the story’s layers.
Despite a Sundance premiere and early Oscar buzz around Lopez’s performance, the movie failed to make a splash with audiences in the US too, grossing only $2million since its October release.
Lopez had expressed enthusiasm about the project, saying, “I was waiting my whole life to be able to do a real big MGM Hollywood musical, and I finally got to do it.
“It was more than I hoped.”
Still, the UK box office figures suggest the film hasn’t quite connected with viewers this side of the Atlantic.
With a career already packed with hits, this stumble is unlikely to hold J-Lo back for long, but it’s a clear reminder that even the biggest stars face ups and downs on the big screen.
