BROADCASTER ITV has moved to quash talk that golden couple Tess Daly and Vernon Kay are being lined up to front This Morning after their recent One Show appearance.
An ITV spokesperson said the telly network is happy with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard as lead hosts, plus Friday duo Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, adding there are no plans to shake up the presenting rota and noting the show is up year-on-year with a weekly reach of 3.7 million viewers, according to Mail Online.
The rumours kicked off after Tess, 56, and Vernon, 51, popped up together on The One Show — their first on-screen reunion in 21 years — and attracted a warm response from viewers, with some suggesting the pair had the kind of chemistry that could revive the classic daytime double-act formula.
The couple’s joint presenting history stretches back: before this one-off return they last co-hosted a series together on the BBC singing contest Just the Two of Us in 2006–2007.
Tess and Vernon first met while working on youth TV — he at Channel 4’s T4 and she on ITV’s SMTV — and became one of the country’s best-known TV couples. They wed in 2003 and are parents to Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16.
For now, ITV appears content with its existing team and says there are no plans to recruit the Daly–Kay pairing to This Morning despite the buzz around their One Show reunion.
