HELENA Bonham Carter has pulled out of The White Lotus series four just nine days into filming, sparking fresh questions about what went wrong.
The acclaimed actress, known for her roles in Harry Potter and The Crown, reportedly left due to creative differences with the show’s director, Mike White.
However, whispers behind the scenes suggest a clash with co-star Sandra Bernhard may have played a part, though Helena’s team firmly denied the pair ever met.
Helena was the first big name cast and her role was tailor-made for her, making her sudden departure all the more surprising.
The new series is set in the luxurious Airelles Chateau de la Messardiere in Saint-Tropez and also stars Steve Coogan and Heather Graham.
Sandra Bernhard, who joined the cast in February, recently spoke warmly about finally landing a “star-turning” role written by Mike White after 25 years of asking.
HBO confirmed Helena’s exit was down to her character not “aligning once on set” and said the role will be rewritten and recast.
They expressed sadness at losing Helena but remain hopeful of working with the star again soon.
Fans have taken to social media with shock and frustration, noting the drama unfolding behind the scenes feels like it belongs in the show itself.
For now, the mystery remains over the true reasons behind Helena Bonham Carter’s abrupt exit from one of TV’s most talked-about dramas.
