GORDON Ramsay’s tough TV image is getting a reality check thanks to someone who has worked closely with him behind the scenes.
Terry Mellor, a site manager from Birmingham featured in Netflix’s Being Gordon Ramsay, says the celebrity chef is far warmer in real life than fans might expect from shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.
Mellor, who helped oversee the build of Ramsay’s new restaurant project at 22 Bishopsgate in London, described the star chef as “a really really nice bloke” who always makes time to speak with the crew on site.
The restaurant development marks the fifth project Mellor has worked on with Ramsay – who’s one of the world’s richest chefs – and he called it the biggest and most challenging build yet, according to BBC.
According to Mellor, Ramsay’s standards are sky-high, but that drive is part of what makes the projects successful.
He also praised the chef’s ability to balance his demanding career with family life, saying he has “a lot of respect” for him.
The Netflix series has also brought Mellor some unexpected attention, with locals asking him for selfies after spotting him in the documentary and even on a billboard alongside Ramsay.
Ramsay returned the praise in the series, calling Mellor a deeply dedicated person who always delivers.
The new 22 Bishopsgate development will feature multiple Ramsay venues, including Lucky Cat, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, and Bread Street Kitchen & Bar.
